Disappointing film in which a student is invited by his girlfriend to spend Christmas with her family. The whole thing quickly becomes quite tedious. This is mainly because you don't actually get any idea of the somewhat absurd characters. Definitely not funny, and not really romantic either.

Annoying film with a lot of tiring characters and a screenplay that never runs smoothly. Furthermore, the acting is unconvincing with the bland Patrick Dempsey in the lead.
The only positives are the beautiful sets and the appearance of Jennifer Connelly.
Actually, the film is only interesting if you want to see Patrick Dempsey and Jennifer Connelly act at a young age.

A comedy without too many jokes, and romance without a happy ending. That would be digestible, but the film is also a bit too slow and too bland. On the other hand, it is one of Jennifer Connelly's first roles, and with her big-hair sisters that is not bad.
