Il Posto (1961)

Strong film indeed. Recognizable too, having just finished school and then discovering the real life of an office job and especially the disappointment. I had those feelings then too. That was corrected later, but I could empathize with the main character. Also beautiful that story with that girl who doesn't lead anywhere, also such recognizable emotions and very believable and real. Visually also beautifully shot, especially with an emphasis on modern construction and the hustle and bustle of building (like more Italian films from that time, by the way).
Actually, the film doesn't do anything wrong at all, except that the main character is sometimes a bit too timid in my opinion and the film occasionally fails to hold the attention. But due to the playing time of an hour and a half, this is easily manageable. 4.0*.

Good film about a boy who is forced to apply for a job at a large company by his parents. Not exactly a cheerful (although not entirely humorless) coming-of-age film, which clearly shows the straitjacket the boy will find himself in. Beautiful, natural acting and, especially today, a beautiful document of the times. It sometimes collapses a bit in the middle, but 3.5 stars are still appropriate.

Nice film to watch, beautifully shot. The theme of Il Posto is somewhat depressing, but there is still some humor subtly incorporated through moments that are very recognizable from real life. Because you cannot quite fathom the courage of the film, you remain fascinated until the end as to how it turns out. In the end, I wouldn't have minded watching an extra half hour with the main characters. I find it difficult to rate this film because it doesn't feel like a real winner, but Il Posto doesn't actually do anything wrong. That certainly indicates that it is a unique film.
