First time, what a privilege
We don't have to tell a long story about the film, it's a mix.
One that's part horror with a dash of horror story, a thriller part, and some romance.
People on IMDb are not too positive, but because the story and the trailer appealed to us, we gave it a try.
We suspect that most who will watch this film are horror fans and you are wrong with this film.
The action is subcutaneously present but often you have to wait. There is a lot of conversation and for us that was not a real downside.
So far there have been 357 viewers on IMDb who averaged only 3.7, probably as we suspect, all horror buffs and probably somewhat disappointed in the overall horror/action part.

In the end, we rate the film with a nice 7, because the whole thing was well put together.
But beware, this is our opinion!

Based on a true story.

In real life, Lionel and his wife Marianne Foyster moved into the vicarage on October 16, 1930, and left in October 1935. Together they had an adopted daughter named Adelaide, but her character was dropped in the film. The story depicted in this film is largely an accurate portrayal of the Foyster's stay at the Borley Rectory, closely following the documented accounts of Lionel and Marianne. However, the film's conclusion is entirely fictional. Marianne Foyster admitted to having a sexual relationship with Frank, and used the paranormal incidents to cover up this affair. The Borley Rectory was founded in 1862 by the Reverend Henry Dawson Ellis Bull near the Borley Church built. In Germany, this film was released under the title "American Poltergeist 5: The Borley Haunting". After the success of the original American Poltergeist, German distributors added the title to a collection of unrelated horror films. This with the aim that they could be released as a single series within that area. An American retail chain requested that the number of sex scenes be reduced before releasing the film on DVD. This version was shortened by 4 minutes, but the UK version was left untouched.

The genre for this movie is very misleading. Based on the title you would expect a horror film with paranormal events, but in fact the story largely focuses on the affair between Marianne and Frank. The story is very disjointed, and the film does not seem to to know in which direction to go. The ending in particular was quite predictable. Not the worst of its kind, but not good either.

1.5 *

Within A Haunting at the Rectory, director Andrew Jones seemed to forget that he was marketing a horror film, because almost every minute of this film is spent on romance and drama. The thriller scenes are present, but are swept under the carpet as easily as they appear. Furthermore, the design is of course cheap, and a lot of money will not have been invested in this production. Nevertheless, Lee Bane (a regular cast member of Jones) does a decent job and wants to entertain the limited haunting, but unfortunately there is not much of it to be seen. The finale even seems to forget that the house is the home base of a number of ghosts. Messy, uninteresting and unattractive are the main concepts that color this film.
