I am a big fan of Louis de Funes, so it was a pity that he was barely in the picture. It was quite funny at times, but this film didn't always hold my attention very well. Several familiar faces from other Louis De Funes passed through this film.

Very pleasant comedy. I watched a colored version and that was also not too bad. Great performance by Robert Dhéry who directed as well as acted and wrote the screenplay. It seems to me that he was influenced here and there by the work of René Clair. He liked to tinker with sound and Dhéry does the same here a few times (the 'cackling' cops, the noises during the meal). The atmosphere in general is also of a Clairian lightness. Nice is the contribution of the always amusing de Funès. I have also seen this film as part of a de Funès box although it is a supporting actor.

Cheerful comedy with some inventive scenes, but unfortunately mostly a lot of old-fashionedness. De Funès obviously excels in his small role. A little more attention is paid to his later fellow gendarme, the lazy Christian Marin.
