I'm not much of a Ferrell fan. I get like tired when I look at that man. It therefore does not help that the film has a number of boring moments. Fortunately, we do have Wahlberg there, who regularly managed to put a smile on my face. Admittedly: They fit together better than expected, they do have chemistry together.

How they try to outdo each other is nice to see in the beginning, but you soon see it because it is all very cliché. Also the 'jokes' are not always so successful. For example, I don't think it's that funny when someone 'flies into a wall'. Not to mention the NBA scene. And that dance battle... well, that was so cliche that I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Anyway, of course it ends like you could have predicted in the first five minutes.

Nice to have seen once, but it is nothing new under the sun.

Family matter

Daddy's home: I wasn't sure what to think of this title. In any case, the concept appealed to me and since I had heard several times from friends that they thought Will Ferrell was such a funny dude I decided to give this one the benefit of the doubt.

The first conclusion I can draw is that Will Ferrell is definitely not a funny dude here. This film has been lost for me because Daddy's home is not funny at all and above all very boring. This is really a family movie for the whole family and the whole tone that is set here also radiates this. Here you are really looking at formulaic work where the moral of the story is constantly forced on the viewer. The whole story is so gooey, well-behaved, predictable and sleep-inducing that I still don't understand how I could have finished it. For stepfathers and stepmothers who feel bad about themselves, this feel-good movie can mean a lot, but outside this specific category I can't imagine that anyone has anything to look for in this film.

1,5*

Predictably fun and fun predictable

A tame cliché comedy that knows how to entertain.

I had to chuckle again at Ferrell's dry head and his dull sweaters. He's just perfect for those kinds of roles. In combination with Wahlberg, this gives a nice interaction. Every now and then the film falters a bit, but that is sufficiently compensated for by the comical slapstick-like moments and lyrics.

On to part 2!
