The plot that strings things together isn't the strongest of the film, but the atmosphere makes up for it quite a bit. This is a noir where everyone and everything has interests that they play off against each other. With shifting loyalty. Powell is best in the title role. But Cobb is also beautiful in a kind of old-fashioned police officer who stays calm under everything and tries to solve the problem. Furthermore, this is mainly a prototype noir. Not all elements are there. But many do.
