In my childhood I also read Johanna Spyri's genuine classic about Heidi. To my shame I must admit that I remember little of it. But I am pleasantly surprised by this charming film adaptation, built entirely around the then child star Shirley Temple. An old-fashioned film with an old-fashioned story, but despite its shortcomings, it is certainly an entertaining youth and family film.

Actually, the Japanese cartoon series is by far the best version, not only because of the beautiful drawings but also because of the long running time and therefore the much better development of the characters.
However, this version is also quite good and Temple, but also the actor who plays her grandfather, do a very nice job.
