Just a little better than the previous part, the puppets were nicely done.

Story in itself also with those crazy men involved.

Acting wasn't that bad either.

2.5 stars

A little bit better and more entertaining than the previous installment, but still pretty bad.

Fortunately, the puppets are allowed to take more action and these moments look a little nicer than the sparse and wooden movements that were seen in the previous part.

The "retro versions" of the dolls look pretty cool and a bit creepy. Unfortunately, the film never really gets seriously creepy, but it remains more of a kind of action/fantasy story.

In Toulon's retrospective we are presented with a new version of the origin of the dolls. The idea of Egyptian magic is a nice idea, but the execution is a bit clumsy. The acting and script are quite weak. In addition, the sets are also poorly put together here and there. The scenes on the "train" in particular don't look that good.

Despite the clumsy and amateurish character, it is a film that is fairly easy to watch. Yet there are more than enough other films where time could be better spent.

Maybe fun for pulp lovers.

The seventh part of the series is also being tackled by director David DeCoteau, who thus delivers his third film within this universe. Just like the previous part, it is striking that the production is very cheap and that results in a particularly ugly visual surface. The actors are equally subpar and the striking presence of a young Greg Sestero cannot counter that. What is special is that the makers have tried to decorate attractive sets and are still able to benefit from this, and they have (finally) opted for a makeover of the dolls. That makes sense since this is (again) an origin story, but it's refreshing to see the new designs nonetheless. Unfortunately, that doesn't prevent Retro Puppet Master from quickly expiring its powder, going off the rails with far-fetched plot points and ultimately looking quite boring.
