Live A Little is perhaps Presley's worst film ever. There are a few titles that could live up to that dubious honor but this one is truly excruciatingly bad. The songs are reasonable to good but the script is so full of holes and the humor is so hard to find this time.. Combine this with the bad acting performances and a demotivated, stoned Elvis.. Et voila.. A first class blunder.

According to Charlie Hodge, a good friend and band member of Elvis, a film where there was a lot of laughter, especially outside the view of the camera, because of the countless jokes the crew played on each other. Unfortunately, this pleasure did not radiate on this obligatory number from the film-strangling career of Presley. Elvis was ashamed of this kind of films.

At this stage of Elvis' film career it is clear that society as a whole is in transition. There is the breakthrough of flower power and free love - a theme in this film. It is all presented with a proverbial wink. Michele Carey is a free-spirited lady who winds men around her finger and gives a complex impression. This is also the first film in which it is clear that Elvis is going all the way with his co-star. Interestingly enough the suggestive afterscene is preceded by a scene in which Elvis smashes a window. In film noir, smashing windows was a symbol for sex, perhaps they have included that code here.

Above all, it is a silly comedy that is of course - like most of the Elvis movies - written down by the public opinion. Nevertheless, I think this is a successful film within its genre. Elvis has talent for comedy, that much is certain, and this film should be viewed within its time frame. The music is also more than good. His later films keep it rather limited with the musical input, so it is not as if he bursts into song every now and then. He does bring some good songs that fit the story completely. The Edge of Reality then has a hilarious run-up with a dream sequence with a talking dog.
