"You will not feel the terror until you experience the movie!"
Paul Dean has created a deadly parasite. An experiment of which he himself is now in danger of becoming a victim, since the organism has attached itself in his stomach. His new female acquaintance, Patricia Welles, and himself try to find a way to destroy the parasite. But apparently one Ricus and his accomplices absolutely do not want that. Government official Marchant also wants to prevent that for one reason or another.

Not good. The film is mainly memorable because it features an early role for Demi Moore (not that it can be inferred from this trash that she actually has a serious career). Furthermore, there are some cheap but decent body horror moments at times, but otherwise, this is a boring and confusing mess. There is some Mad Max-esque dystopia in it, probably mainly to introduce a group of bad guys (m/f) in an attempt to create at least a bit of tension. But that succeeds only moderately, just as the aforementioned body horror is mainly a mediocre imitation of Cronenberg. And those are actually the better elements of the film, because there is also a lot of boring drivel in between and not much sensible plot to be found either.
To look at it positively, Charles Band made much bigger trash later on (Evil Bong, for example).

And not just a little bit, either. Parasite belongs to the category of films that are probably most enjoyable if you like stupid, crude horror movies. Sometimes there is a real hit among them for me, but Parasite absolutely does not belong in that category. What I often need is some fun, and I cannot sense that anywhere during this film.
It is quite remarkable to see a famous actress in a somewhat younger role; I assume this film is being watched primarily for that reason. I, too, became just a little more interested in the film because Moore was in it. To be honest, looking at this film now, I couldn't really have guessed that she would get a breakthrough. After all, it is only a mediocre acting performance.
Furthermore, the film is characterized by a reasonably fast pace, but also an otherwise restrained atmosphere. Very few special effects are featured throughout the film. When they do occur, they look quite funny. I find the whole concept of that parasite quite cleverly conceived, although not very original. In any case, it offers room to go all out, but there probably wasn't any money for that.
It is entertaining, sure, but also disappointing due to the lack of truly striking horror moments. As a fan of lots of camp and nonsense, you might appreciate it, but films like this have their average ratings for a reason. To a certain extent, it is quite watchable, but for Charles Band, it barely rises above his usual B-level.

A low-budget film directed by the legendary Charles Band with a cool score by his brother Richard. It clearly shows influences from Mad Max and Alien. It is also entertaining that this was a young Demi Moore's first major role. The special effects are very successful and likely consumed a significant portion of the budget. These are by Stan Winston, another Hollywood legend. Actress Vivian Blaine was a survivor of Classic Hollywood who had previously worked with Frank Sinatra and Laurel & Hardy. All in all, it is quite a production featuring a number of names, from cult to (later and earlier) mainstream.
Atmosphere is a very important element in such low-budget films, and it was captured perfectly. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Great camp. The film's soundtrack was recently released by Mystic Vault in a very beautiful edition that I now own.
