Because I was in the mood for some 70s sci-fi, I started this one. The plot appealed to me, and it wasn't a bad choice. I didn't expect the Walt Disney logo, though, so this is a children's film. Despite some scenes and characters (including the two (!) adorable robots) clearly being aimed at children, it's also perfectly enjoyable for fans of sci-fi from that era. It feels like a cross between Star Trek and Star Wars. It borrows the story and characters from Star Trek, and the bad guy and the robots from Star Wars.

Entertaining and underrated. A good 3*.

A decent film in which a group of astronauts stumbles upon a ship that's been missing for 20 years. Despite the title, you learn precious little about the black hole. A simple story with simple characters, but it's presented with an adventurous touch. Beautiful, large sets, and the special effects are still decent. Only the robots look a bit clunky.

As far as I'm concerned, you can't put too many 70s lasers and robots in your film. A mad scientist who, after 20 years locked up alone with his robot army, finally wants to fly his spaceship straight into a black hole. The last 20 minutes are absolutely worth it, but the rest of the film is a weak affair. We hear John Barry trying his best on the score, but it's not all that exciting.

Disney goes Star Wars, but it's all far too tame. Except for the last 20 minutes!
