A film that, from the very first minute, draws you into the last grim years of the war.

The sets and locations are completely convincing and the actors no less so.

Brilliant performances by Adorf, Holm, Messemer and others.

A gripping story that remains compelling, partly because of the ending.

Of course, the Nazis did not want any publicity about a serial killer who had murdered over 40 women and thus made a mockery of the so-called perfect justice system, so the case had to be hushed up.

I expected a long search by the inspector, but that was not the case at all. Otherwise, a good film that is actually more about how the inspector is thwarted by the Gestapo than about the unmasking of the perpetrator.
