De Marathonloper plot

Every year, on the third Sunday of October, more than forty thousand people—young and old, men and women, white and black, rich and poor, heavy and light—run through the streets and along the roads of Amsterdam and its surroundings. The TSC Amsterdam Marathon is a mega-spectacle that moves between elite sport, popular festival, entertainment, and consumption. This film explores both the colossal, noisy, and multifaceted element and the individual, hyper-focused, and intimate element.

Cohen and a team of 18 cameramen followed a number of participants (and the proverbial sweep vehicle) during the Amsterdam Marathon 2024. The participants tell their personal stories in voiceovers, while the camera primarily films them on their bikes during the run. An admirable technical tour de force, even though the personal stories are so diverse that there is no universal message.
