The Great Sinner plot
"A great star for every role in a great drama"
A young writer leaves for Monte Carlo to write about gambling and gamblers. He gambles himself straight to ruin out of love for the beautiful Pauline. It leads to him degrading himself into a thief.

The dangers of gambling addiction are the theme of the film, but to add faith and the concept of "sinner" seems too important to me.
The first half hour of the film is not really interesting, but by far the best moments are those of Gregory Peck at the gaming tables. He has certainly depicted the widely varying emotions excellently.
The atmosphere in the gaming rooms and the attitude of management and fortune seekers are also appropriately depicted.
Overall as a film, however, rather mediocre.
Ava Gardner just has to be beautiful. You couldn't really ask for much more from her.

Wiesbaden should be the place name and not monte carlo.
Furthermore, a great performance from Peck who credibly portrays an Obsessive Gambling Addict.
I think it is rather shortsighted to portray Ava Gardner as a mediocre actress, she is doing a more than fine job.
