Fragments of Belonging plot

Tatjana has never lived anywhere long enough to feel at home. Now she is stranded in a notorious neighborhood of Amsterdam with her teenage son, who cringes at her Slavic accent and her inability to act Dutch. She is determined to break free from this and embarks on a thorough search for the sense of belonging, but with a camera. She travels through Europe and knocks on the doors of family and friends who have settled somewhere as guest workers and expats.

Croatian-born Tatjana Bozic never lived in the same country for longer than 10 years. Until she married a Dutchman and had a son. Since her divorce, 52-year-old Tatjana has been a single mother in Amsterdam, and she struggles with that role. She seeks ways to combat her loneliness. Partly through group therapy, but also by opening up her home as a 'Tiny Hotel' in the hope of forming friendships with guests. There are amusing moments, including one in which she visits her Croatian family with her son, who was born in the Netherlands, but her story lacks a universal character and therefore feels somewhat disjointed.
