A decent horror thriller with a brutal first half-hour, in which director R. Trevor Griffiths conjures up some harsh images on screen a few times. It is never truly shocking, but it is nice that Prank Night isn't afraid to hit just a little harder than similar horror films. From that point on, the film seems to hint at some kind of twist several times, which unfortunately never comes. Instead, it is a slowly escalating spectacle with a mediocre protagonist and a main villain who poses little threat. It is the supporting roles that receive solid acting marks; unfortunately, those members ultimately have a mixed influence on the story. Furthermore, the finale of Prank Night is entertaining, but not graphic enough to leave a lasting impression.
