This director has made a few fun horror films in the past, such as Triangle and Severance. That's why I was really looking forward to this. Yeah, who wouldn't want that... some nice ladies on an island with spiders. I would definitely book a trip like that to this island, despite the risk with the women.

All joking aside. There is no creativity in the kills. It doesn't really get exciting either. No, this was a disappointment.

Weak horror film. The story is not very original and holds no surprises. The execution is very flat and lacks depth. Now, that isn't the most important aspect of a horror film, but the movie could have used a bit more substance. Additionally, it lacks the real horror ingredients, meaning little suspense and virtually no gore or blood. The only thing supposed to be scary are the running spiders, but even that is barely utilized. The acting is of questionable quality. Visually, however, it is fine. 2.0

Viewers with arachnophobia might get a few shivers at the sight of the small, computer-generated spiders crawling across the island, but this comedic horror film will hardly scare many fans. Director Christopher Smith shows, at any rate, that ambition is no longer part of his arsenal and delivers a very direct film on which he barely puts his stamp. A pleasant, sunny atmosphere and a number of actors and actresses throwing themselves wholeheartedly into their roles soften the blow, but it takes an agonizingly long time before things get turned upside down in Spider Island. From a distance, this whole thing serves as a critique of capitalism and greed, but these get overshadowed by the rather ridiculous narrative and the unconvincing humor.
