Man of War plot
During the first phase of the war in Ukraine, retired CIA agent Michael Connor receives a desperate video call: his niece Riley, a relief worker, has been kidnapped during an attack on an orphanage in Kharkiv. Connor travels across a continent and plunges into a country at war, where he throws himself into the conflict with the help of the eccentric Ukrainian fixer Dany. Meanwhile, his former CIA contact Charlie works from afar to keep the mission going. Together, they hunt down the ruthless Skorzeny mercenary commander Koniev.

A decent action movie. The story is unoriginal and the Ukraine setting feels arbitrary; it could just as easily have taken place anywhere else. The execution is inconsistent. The run-up to the final half-hour is somewhat monotonous and could have been much shorter. It is, however, filled with enough action scenes that look good but are quite similar to one another. The final half-hour makes up for a lot, and Kaufman's touch is clearly visible. Truly class action scenes. Bullets fly left and right, with good sound and strong camerawork, making it feel as if you, the viewer, are right in the middle of it. Despite the ensuing chaos, the film maintains good control. Furthermore, the acting is of a sufficient standard. 3.0
