Quite a decent (short) action movie. The story is limited, but that is permissible for a comic book adaptation like Punisher. Turn off your brain and enjoy the brutal violence and plenty of blood, certainly by Disney standards. For after a brief build-up where we see Castle struggling with PTSD and suicidal tendencies, he goes completely wild after about 20 minutes. What follows is an action spectacle reminiscent of John Wick. The scenes look good and are skillfully shot, sometimes non-stop. Bernthal portrays the role convincingly. Too bad about the short running time. 3.5

Punisher showcase
I usually only write reviews of films, but because Punisher: One Last Kill is officially labeled as a film, I am including it as well. I have also seen the former Netflix series. One Last Kill seems largely separate from it, but at the same time feels somewhat fragmented. It reminds me more of a pilot for a soft reboot of the series than a truly standalone special.
A special that I believe is intended to provide a glimpse into where Frank Castle was before he possibly appears in the new Spider-Man. Of course, we still have to wait for that release. If “Ma” (the new villain introduced in this special) doesn't play a role in it, I would find it strange if there wasn't a standalone sequel to this.
As far as I'm concerned, that sequel doesn't have to be a season of thirteen episodes. The series was well-made, but would have worked better in a format of five to a maximum of eight episodes, as was done with Daredevil: Born Again. A short season of five episodes, in the same fast-paced style as this special, could have fit well here.
Now it feels mostly like a standalone showcase of the character, without any real added value to the story of Frank Castle. As a result, the special comes across as quite superfluous and adds little for me personally.
That being said, it was absolutely no punishment to watch the massive action, which is depicted here more brutally than ever, except for one sloppy CGI moment. Hats off to Disney. Hopefully, The Punisher won't be tarnished by having him appear in a 12+ production.

It's a bit strange that this episode is listed as a standalone movie on MoMe, but I have to say this leaves me wanting more! I was a big fan of the Punisher series, and this is good old-fashioned blasting away, just switch off your brain. Great action, and Bernthal is made for this role. Hopefully, we'll be treated to a new Punisher series soon.
