The End of Oak Street plot
"Where goes the neighborhood."
A couple lives on Flowervale Street in the 1980s and notices slight changes in their neighborhood. After a heavy thunderstorm, they, along with their children and neighbors, wake up in prehistoric times. From now on, they must count dinosaurs among their neighbors. While attempting to survive their new reality, they search for a way to get back home.

Expected a bit more. When JJ Abrahms is involved, you know it won't be a bad or boring movie, but that is about the best you can say about it. Lazy, infantile script. Thanks to the intense acting of Hathaway and McGregor, it bears some resemblance (must be difficult for established actors to approach such nonsense seriously: respect), but predictability is the order of the day. The filmmakers must have realized this themselves, because in the second part we actually get a few surprises in the form of a very funny joke (the laugh) and an unexpected dramatic twist (a deceptive tear), which works quite well for the moment and slightly boosts the final verdict. All in all, however, not a movie I would recommend to adults, and for those under 20: only watch it if you aren't tired of Dino yet.

I was looking forward to this movie. The first half is very strong and I was captivated the entire time. A great 80s atmosphere, a fine mystery, and the curiosity really builds. However, I think the film takes a direction halfway through that I would have preferred to see differently. I thought Hathaway and McCregor looked like they had been made younger with CGI, so I was hoping they would go into the jungle and survive there for a longer time.
Unfortunately, it takes the easy way out. After spotting Starbuck, the family goes outside individually shouting stupidly, and once back together, the solution the film offers is a bit too lazy. Just jumping into a bubble and the initial shock of McCregor's death would have been undone in no time. I would have liked to see it a bit more inventive, or at least a bit more exciting and set more in the wild.
Nice snack for in between meals. But secretly, I had expected more from it.

A good film in which a family must try to survive when they end up in prehistoric times. Despite the comparisons to the Jurassic Park films, this can be considered a fairly original film. A nice, nostalgic setting, and the family dynamics are well developed. The tone is sometimes a bit uneven, but it is entertaining from beginning to end. Easily 3.5 stars.
