Hungry plot

A group of vacationers travels to Louisiana for a seemingly innocent getaway. In the mysterious and dangerous landscape of the Louisiana swamps, they embark on an airboat ride, seeking adventure. Lured by the promise of an exclusive experience, they stray from the safe path, unaware of the dangers lurking in the bayou. They soon become lost in the swamp and are confronted by a rampaging, bloodthirsty hippopotamus hiding in the depths.

A completely idiotic movie in terms of concept, of course (hippos in the Bayou)... but actually pretty okay in terms of execution. It is well known that hippos aren't exactly sweethearts, and this one had a serious grudge against humans, haha! The setting and acting were good for this genre, the horror was meh... but I did enjoy myself.

Director James Nunn runs with a difficult idea. After all, these kinds of far-fetched, unrealistic concepts are not easy to realize. Nevertheless, he blends in a degree of quality, with nice effects and a reasonable setting. On the other hand, the cast members are given little room to stand out. Characters are given mostly heavily exaggerated, stereotypical traits and are subsequently devoured one after the other. It is striking that the hippopotamus remains out of frame for quite a long time, even though the poster has already amply revealed what is supposed to cause the danger here. It is all perfectly entertaining and has enough thrills and pace, but the finale is really too cheap and the plot looks too familiar and ill-conceived.
