I'm not in the mood for this. A repeat of the same old thing à la One Battle and Dr. Strangelove. Such over-the-top satire to convey how bad the world is these days. The critics are unanimous: terrible.

Maybe I'll pick it up sometime in the future if it comes on TV, or is available to rent for a euro or two.

A very strange film that is intriguing and sometimes entertaining, but certainly not convincing. The message is also way too in-your-face, which is why I mainly thought: what is your real point? Because conveying something so obviously seems too superficial and simple to me. That central speech by Cruise, for example—is it aimed at the viewer? Because the man raises a lot of good points and is absolutely right. But the film seems primarily aimed at the big capitalists, and that is a struggle against that.

Visually cool, but it is precisely the ostentatious staging and obvious artificiality that make me feel like I am watching a staged performance rather than a film that can draw me in. The convincing roles of Cruise (certainly) and Goodman (although he lays it on just a little too thick) cannot change that. Thanks to the ending (especially the final scene), it still gets 3.0*.

Great movie from beginning to end, very well acted by Tom Cruise, but the other actors were also top-notch, very good, thought the movie was amazing.

A bit too long and not always balanced, but those are the only real weaknesses. Cruise and Goodman are very strong. A bit like Dr. Strangelove, but by the Coen brothers in their early period.

The Dr. Strangelove of climate comedies, but with the medieval vulgarity of, for example, Reynaert de Vos, as it still resonates in carnival today. But carnival in the overambitious, endless mirror-hall form of something like 8½, in a design heavily inspired by Roy Andersson (Songs from the Second Floor, About Endlessness), full of white-painted faces and crumbling midcentury design. By far the best thing Tom Cruise has ever done, and Riz Ahmed is in top form too. John Goodman gleefully plays the anal-obsessed jester, for he plays the American president. Film of the year, even if Sandra Hüller and Jesse Plemons are only half-hanging in.

The soundtrack is also very good. It is by Cosmo Sheldrake, who turns out to be the son of that crazy quack Rupert.
