Araki is usually an acquired taste, and this little work, his first after a long stint in television, won't be for everyone. I did find it a laugh, though. Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman are fine in the lead roles, and the script and dialogue are witty and fresh. It was also nice to see Araki's resident actor James Duval pop up right at the end.

A decent film in which a young man goes to work for an artist who makes advances in the workplace. The dynamic between the two main characters is entertainingly developed, and it helps that Cooper Hoffman and Olivia Wilde are well-cast. Pleasant dialogue, reasonably exaggerated, and also colorfully visualized. A bit monotonous at times, though.

The naive Elliot (Cooper Hoffman) gets a job with the provocative artist Erika Tracy (Olivia Wilde) and is drawn into a world full of sex, obsessions, power games, secrecy, and ruthlessness. The story unfolds amidst artistic settings and makes a pretentious impression by touching upon themes such as identity, materialism, sex, and morality. With the help of contrived staging, the film keeps that illusion alive for a while, but it soon becomes apparent that the emphasis lies much more on appearances than on substance.
The film is a comedic commentary on changing sexual morality, the elitist world of the fine arts, and the craving for kicks. In the film, these are the instruments that define a person's identity. I expected a fairly subversive film, but "I Want Your Sex" is actually a soberingly tame parody of pop culture. The film follows Elliot, who finds himself in a pornographically tinged fantasy world. A world of role-playing. The ridiculous antics performed are not particularly erotic and, moreover, are far removed from balanced moral and sociological observations.
I Want Your Sex is a crude sex comedy. Sex is presented as a grotesque form of gymnastics, likely with the intention of sending taboo-breaking and rebellious signals. In my opinion, it fails. Overall, the film is not funny, it is crude, and superficial, thus falling far short of what one might expect from a sharp satire. Very disappointing. The beautiful, colorful set design, a single genuinely funny scene, and the decent acting make up for it somewhat.
