Grünes Licht plot
Johann Friedrich Spittler is an 83-year-old doctor who, despite his personal doubts, believes that helping his patients end their suffering is his moral duty. While some are terminally ill and in constant pain, others fall into a gray area that raises complex questions, both for the law and for Spittler himself. Should a hopelessly depressed man be assured by his doctor that if he ultimately loses the will to live, he can resort to assisted suicide as a last resort? Should Spittler help a grieving mother who only wants to be with her deceased son?
