We meet farmers Nicola and Jana during harvest season. Their loving bond is rare for an elderly couple. But their idyllic life is threatened by economic circumstances that make the family business unsustainable. While the rest of Nicola's family leaves for work abroad, he stays behind alone and focuses on caring for a stork with a broken wing.

Sixty-year-old Nikola Conev struggles to survive as a farmer in Obleshevo, a village in northeastern North Macedonia, alongside his friends and colleagues. Shortly after Nikola's son decides to seek refuge in Germany, he finds a stork unable to fly due to swelling in its wing. He decides to nurse it in this modern fairy tale, which gives the impression that Kotevska (Honeyland) started by taking (admittedly) randomly beautiful pictures of storks and then fabricating a story around them. That story is too good to be true and clearly staged, but that might not stop more romantic souls from taking Nikola and the stork to their hearts.
