I thought the film was mediocre.
A weak story and especially a lot of violence.

Genre director Johannes Roberts continues to evolve after his shaky start, delivering guaranteed quality along the way. Primate is perhaps his most exciting addition. Essentially, everything the premise demands is delivered here: a unique concept, a plethora of characters who occasionally do very illogical things, a steadily building arc of tension, and a polished cinematography. On top of that, the cast performs well, and the screenplay by Roberts and Ernest Riera doesn't make them seem too unsympathetic. Although the silliness is sometimes overly obvious, Primate delivers the exact result many fans of this type of film seek. Roberts' steady ascent is certainly reaching new heights. Extra points for the strong musical selection.

A mediocre film about a chimpanzee kept as a pet by a family in Hawaii. Not really bad, but I've seen it all before. Fairly predictable and a somewhat long first half. A few fairly brutal kills, and thankfully, the film doesn't drag on too long. Just shy of 3.0 stars.
