Excellent film about a piano tuner with perfect hearing who also suffers from hyperacusis. An original film that is entertaining from start to finish. A fine (often jazzy) soundtrack and smooth editing here and there. The main character is compellingly portrayed, and you could describe the film as Sound of Metal meets Emily the Criminal.

Since a hearing impairment put an end to his ambition to become a top pianist, Niki [Leo Woodall] has been working as a piano tuner for father figure Harry Horowitz [Dustin Hoffman]. When Harry ends up in the hospital, Niki uses his connections with a shady security firm to pay the exorbitant bill. To do so, he uses his hard of hearing to open safes. Meanwhile, he begins a relationship with a piano student [Havana Rose Liu], who is preparing for a recital of one of her own compositions, hoping to secure an internship with a famous composer [Jean Reno]. Woodall's understated performance, the interplay with the engaging Hoffman, excellent sound, and the original compositions by Marius De Vries make this fairly predictable crime drama worthwhile.

The premise is original – a piano tuner with hyperacusis turns to crime – but the story is a bit standard: he picks up a girlfriend and gets into more and more trouble, but manages to set it all right in the end (just as he gave his girlfriend's composition a happy ending), although he does have to take a few hits to do so. What bothered me most is that the film constantly has to introduce a highly implausible coincidence to steer the story in the right direction. Consequently, the film isn't really strong, but it is entertaining.
