Hold the Fort plot
"Neighbours from hell... literally."
Lucas and Jenny are just settling into their new home when they are invited to an annual party in the neighborhood. Jenny is reluctant, but Lucas, ready to embrace suburban life, enthusiastically accepts. At the party, there is talk of a gate to hell, dangerous mythical creatures, large amounts of moonlight, and a legendary hero with a gun, McScruffy. Lucas thinks this is all a joke, but then the inevitable happens: the gate to hell opens and the first monsters attack.

A cheap but charming little film that shows low budgets can indeed be compensated for with fun ideas, high speeds, and plenty of humor. Director William Bagley is occasionally overenthusiastic when it comes to special effects, and the sometimes infantile humor doesn't fit equally well everywhere, but Hold the Fort takes little time to get going. Many exaggerated but infectiously acted characters finding themselves at breakneck speed facing creatively conceived threats. Sometimes a bit too simple, but overall amusing and lighthearted. Little things like this go down well every once in a while; as far as I'm concerned, Bagley has earned more money for his next project.
