A decent fantasy film. The poster and title make you fear the worst, but after seeing the trailer, I decided to give it a try. The film was far from disappointing. The story is predictable and familiar from many similar films, but the execution makes up for it. The buildup is short but the pace is good. The action scenes look good and are quite exciting at times. Visually, the film surpasses the B-genre. Reasonable effects, beautiful locations, and definitely not cheap-looking set design. The acting could be better, but it's certainly not bad. A pleasant surprise. 3.0/3.5

Just a fun adventure/action film. Low expectations, but still pleasantly surprised. Perfect for Red Sonja.

Okay, so it's not a remake, it's a different story. It might have a bit of the depth of an episode of Xena the Warrior Princess, but it's still not bad.

It's a shame about the somewhat unfortunate mix of CGI (AI?) images and dull sets. Perhaps the budget wasn't sufficient, but I think there are better solutions. And also a shame about the overly epic music; at times, you almost think you're watching an old-fashioned 1960s spectacle.

And yes, at first I really had my doubts about Lutz in the title role. Too much of a wavering little thing to handle such a role. But once the bling-bling bikini comes out, that's all forgotten. Wallis Day also provides a beautiful contrast—I would have preferred her to have had a bit more space, with her beautiful blonde Brigitte Nielsen hairdo—which Brigitte had in those other films.

Furthermore, it's all a bit too easygoing and interchangeable. The "real" Red Sonja still has something of a cult following after forty years, but this film will be forgotten in six months.
