Clown in a Cornfield plot

"Quinn Maybrook just wants to make it to graduation. She might not make it to the morning."

Quinn and her father have just moved to the quiet town of Kettle Springs hoping for a fresh start. Instead, she discovers a fractured community in dire straits after the costly Baypen Corn Syrup Factory burned down. As residents bicker and tensions run high, a sinister, grinning figure emerges from the cornfields to rid the town of its burdens, one bloody victim at a time.

Yes, again a woke sauce in a horror film.

Don't get the low voices, I had a good time with this tonight. I thought at first that this was going to be a super low budget film but the opposite turned out to be the case, this film has a fairly high-quality production and budget and looks good. The story is pretty standard and the main characters are as stereotypical as can be, the same can be said about the side characters (a stereotypical sheriff who is against the youth and everything used to be better blah blah) but it is all nicely presented and the kills are also good, the cinematography is also just fine. I have little to complain about here. Nice. Just go and see it.

Clown in a Cornfield

A teenage girl, a town full of secrets and a clown who shows up just a little too often. Welcome to Kettle Springs, where a fresh start quickly spirals out of control.

I thought this was a mediocre horror-comedy.

The story is pretty standard: a group of teenagers being slaughtered one by one, nothing new under the sun. This time it's clowns calling the shots. The setting is fine; a cornfield always has something ominous about it, but unfortunately most of the film doesn't take place there.

There are a few nice scenes, but for a comedy I found it a bit sparse. The mix of horror and comedy does not always work well. As a horror film it does what you expect from a slasher: a few creative and well-shot kills, but it never really gets exciting. The characters remain rather superficial and lack development. I found Katie Douglas convincing, the rest was decent but not special.

All in all, a nice in-between for slasher fans, but it doesn't really impress.

2.5 stars
