After both her parents were victims of suicide bombings, Sita became suspicious of religion. An age-old belief states that people who have sinned greatly will suffer terrible tortures in the grave after their death. Since then, Sita's life's goal has been to find the most sinful person and when that person dies, Sita wants to enter his grave to prove that the torment of the grave does not exist and that religion is not real. But of course, there are dire consequences for those who do not believe.

Director Joko Anwar shows that he has the right qualities to evoke an atmospheric and threatening horror atmosphere, but shows this too limited within a film that lasts 117 minutes. Siksa Kubur mainly suffers from a too long spread out content in which specifically the middle part fails to convince. The characters are simply not interesting enough and the highlights are too limited. In between, there are some strikingly graphic images and a very convincing finale, which easily award the film a deserved pass mark. Anwar is the right man for this world, but in the future he would do better to make his projects a bit more compact.
