Not a bad film, a reasonable story based on true facts about mafia boss Frank Costello. It all looks good and the cast also plays well. Only the double role of DeNiro I do not understand completely, it is unnecessary and detracts from the credibility of the film. Nevertheless not bad and it is a nice look into the history of the American mafia.

Don't ask why, but De Niro plays a dual role here as friendly mafia figures Frank Costello and Vito Genovese who, at a later age, find themselves at loggerheads with each other. Vito even orders his henchman Albert [Michael Rispoli] to liquidate Frank. Frank survives the attack, but sticks to his decision to retire from crime. What follows is a series of flashbacks told from Frank's perspective that tell the background and ultimately how the conflict between Frank and Vito is finally resolved. De Niro's dual role is a bit confusing at first, but all in all this is a solid crime drama. The big problem is that it has nothing to add to the genre in terms of content and narrative style.

It's amazing that De Niro can remember all the gibberish of two characters at that age! That says it all.
