Reasonable drama. The story resembles similar theme films. The execution could have been better but is sufficient. The film is easy to watch. For a drama, the film remains somewhat superficial, which means it does not really hit home with the viewer. The story also moves a bit too fast, which means you do not bond or click with the main characters. The ending is nicely done and ultimately leaves you with a lump in your throat. The acting is reasonable. 3.0

Julia Stiles' directorial and writing debut - and just like her acting career, it may not be the most high-flown ever, but I think she'll get a lot of favor. Almost all of her films have some kind of nostalgia or guilty pleasure charge, and this new chapter can easily be added to that.

As a film it is quite successful I think - to the extent that that is still possible, because the genre has stepped out so far that it might just be better to say that it is finished - finished, completed, accomplished, done. Yet halfway through the somewhat faltering plot it manages to spoon up a beautifully endearing and tear-jerking moment without it coming across as too contrived. Too bad the ending is a bit too sweet.

Image and sound are ok - I found the music in between mostly well chosen and pleasant, and the locations are absolutely fine although also very cliché - give me a Hollywood movie where one of the two main characters lives in a hovel like the one I was allowed to live in when I was in my twenties - or come up with a story that makes it credible that they just blew the inheritance of their oligarchic sugar daddy on the down payment. It wouldn't surprise me if the mismatch between reality and the homes in movies and series plays a significant role in how the current housing shortage is felt.

Oh yeah, I was talking about the movie. Fuhrman, I wanted to say something about that - it's a relief that she looks a bit healthier than in The Novice (2021). On the other hand, she doesn't quite reach the same intensity, although it's not that far off.
