Exciting, occasionally rather crazy film with horror elements, about a young journalist (Ayo Edebiri) who gets the chance to experience the comeback of a legendary pop star (John Malkovich) up close. The plot is clearly 'inspired' by films like Get Out and Midsommar, although that quality is never achieved. The surprise is simply a bit off in that respect. Nevertheless, it is enjoyable, not least because of the hilarious, completely crazy role of Malkovich.

A good film in which a group is invited to visit a famous pop artist who is releasing a new album after 30 years. Since it quickly becomes clear that the film revolves around a cult, the progression is somewhat predictable. There are some delightfully quirky moments here and there, and the overall set design is excellent. It's easy to watch, but ultimately feels a bit too safe. A narrow 3.5 stars.

Malkovich plays an evil pop star in a silly horror dud (The Guardian). RT, IMBD, and many other sites are also rightly negative. Here on MM, it still gets 2.84, which is still a lot for this mindless video. I'd rather put on an LP by Opus, and that's already very bad... trash.
