A group of New Yorkers enjoy a nighttime ferry ride. However, the ride quickly turns deadly when a mischievous mouse preys on the unsuspecting passengers. The crew must now work together to thwart the murderous threat.

Most horror fans probably won't expect too much from ScreamBoat, other than a minimal amount of entertainment. Unfortunately, director Steven LaMorte even has some trouble with that, because for almost the entire first half we follow a collection of uninteresting characters who are randomly killed by a wooden mouse costume. David Howard Thornton once again pulls out his unique bag of tricks to provide the production with the necessary humor and the murders are nicely graphic, but otherwise ScreamBoat is mainly a boring affair. The environment is bare, the direction looks rushed and the entire production suffers from a lack of atmosphere. These kinds of concepts are of course nice, but it is about time that a director with more eye for ambition steps up.

The premise seems fun, with the idea of a pure B-grade, over-the-top horror film in mind, but unfortunately, it didn't work. Some of the kills are entertaining and even quite gory in execution. The story is obviously worthless, but other aspects of the film are also very subpar, such as the acting, the many annoying characters (that group of women), the humor, and the appearance of the killer (the mouse) himself. As a viewer, you expected him to be bigger, someone who dresses up as a mouse and wants to kill everyone on the boat. The mouse's origins and motivations also remain very unclear. If you get the feeling that the film is dragging on, that's not a good sign either. 4/10
