Blunder Below plot

Popeye is on a battleship. He is in class to learn gunnery, but it is far too technical for him; when he gets his hands on the cannon, he shoots everywhere, including his own ship. As a result, he is banished to the boiler room. A real Japanese submarine comes along. The sailors can't handle it, so Popeye eats his spinach and dives in to fight the submarine by hand.
