In itself a promising premise, and it unfolds nicely in the first half, with the romance between the photographer and the seismologist. From my profession, I naturally enjoy seeing stories like that.
Still, I am not all that enthusiastic about the film as a whole. Reality is treated in a very Hollywood way, and as we have all known since Pompeii, it doesn't work like that in real life. Beautiful visuals, but I shudder when I think about how much environmental pollution was caused for it—surely this ash isn't just burnt peat, is the first thing that crosses my mind.
More meaningful content about the recent eruptions in Iceland can easily be found on YouTube; for example, try searching for a gentleman using the title 'Just Icelandic'. You will learn a lot more from him, and the accompanying music is less irritating.
