Carved plot

A sad teenager who spends her days writing plays goes with her younger brother to a historically recreated village on Halloween night. There, the pair and the others are attacked by a vengeful pumpkin with a life of its own. The survivors will have to work together to defeat the pumpkin and escape the village alive.

Amusing Halloween film in which a pumpkin causes havoc and director Justin Harding makes full use of this absurd fact. Right from the opening, the makers show their combination of practical and animated effects, which go remarkably well together in Carved. The murders are also bloody enough for that and the mass slaughter within the first half hour is very enjoyable to watch. However, it remains a bit of a shame that Harding then slows down the pace and switches to a kind of cat-and-mouse game between the deceased and the monster. There, Carved becomes significantly more serious and dramatic in tone, something that does not really help the whole thing and the characters are also not very interesting. The camp returns in the last fifteen minutes, but the level of the first 30 minutes is never reached again. Very unfortunate, but nevertheless an entertaining trifle with remarkably low ratings.
