There are few films worse than Amityville: Mt. Misery Road, but Carlos Ayala makes a commendable attempt to reach the same dubious level. In this extremely slow, sleep-inducing horror film, paranormal investigator Heather West sets out to contact the spirit of a girl who was murdered 19 years earlier. A hopeless production with a surreal scene that can be compared to the dream sequence from Ed Wood's Glen Or Glenda. If you make it to the end, be sure to check the credits and have a pen and paper handy to see how many times Carlos Ayala lets his own name appear on screen. An abominable ego trip.

Through deceptive marketing, director Carlos Ayala tries to attract fans to demonstrate his qualities, as this has little to do with Amityville. In fact, this concept isn't even mentioned once in the script. Where the Echo Lives nevertheless contains several striking ideas, with an atmospheric location and a handful of potentially suspenseful moments. Unfortunately, these are largely cut short by Ayala, who otherwise spends a long time on completely unimportant matters. The running time is stretched out with scenes that show little more than Sarah McDonald getting food from the fridge, going for a run, browsing the internet, and occasionally meeting a family member. This uninteresting loop then continues for almost an hour, culminating in an unremarkable paranormal investigation with relatively little suspense.
