Sanatorium under the Sign of the Hourglass plot
A ghostly train journey along a forgotten railway line brings a son, Jozef, to visit his dying father in a remote Galician sanatorium. On arrival Jozef finds the sanatorium completely moribund and run by the dubious Doctor Gotard who tells him that his father’s death, the death that took him in his country, has not yet happened and that they are always late here by a certain time interval whose length cannot be determined. Jozef will realize that the sanatorium is a floating world halfway between sleeping and waking and that time and events cannot be measured in any tangible form.
