She is a tactical officer on a submarine. He is a steward. They meet during a layover. But their budding romance is suddenly interrupted. The steward is persistent, however: he keeps pursuing her. As if one has time to fall in love on board a military ship. The fact remains that the Pacific Ocean is not big enough to discourage him. Nor is the Arctic Ocean.
