While working at the YMCA daycare, Canadian Merrill Nisker discovered the power of music as a means of communication. After a period in the band 'The Shit' and pop duo with Chilly Gonzales, she released her first album 'Teaches Of Peaches' in Berlin in 2000. With this, Peaches became an icon for everyone who wants to give society a big middle finger, but behind the extravagant shows and the obscene lyrics there is a vision. At the age of 56, Peaches is preparing for an anniversary tour. Although there is a lot of talk about Peaches' significance for the LGBTQI community, among others, it all remains very superficial. Shirley Manson (singer of Garbage) is the only colleague who puts Peaches on a pedestal, moreover Fussenegger seems more interested in concert footage and classics such as "Fuck The Pain Away", "Rock Show" and "Diddle My Skittle" are played several times. Fans won't be much wiser from this, as those (like me) who have never heard of Peaches will probably not immediately feel called to listen to her music.
