Chantal Akerman (1950-2015) made Jeanne Dielman in 1975, which, after a vote among hundreds of film critics, dethroned Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo in 2022 as the best film of all time according to the British Film Institute. Reason enough for a look back at the oeuvre of the idiosyncratic Akerman, who filmed Jeanne Dielman with an almost exclusively female crew and continually tried to reinvent herself. Her good friend and right-hand man Marilyn Watelet tells us more about the enigmatic Belgian filmmaker using fragments from films such as Saute Ma Ville (1971), Golden Eighties (1986), D'Est(1991) and the impressive No Home Movie (2015), which she made just before she took her own life. Certainly an invitation to immerse yourself in her oeuvre, but Akerman herself remains mainly a mystery.
