Slingshot plot

Nice mindfuck, this SF-film about three astronauts during a years-long mission to Titan, a moon around Saturn. We've all seen it before and better, but the fine cast, the intelligently developed script and the visually attractive design compensate for the lack of originality just enough.

The film scores really cringe-worthy here and I don't understand it at all.

Admittedly, the film seems very conventional and the flashbacks can take the pace out of the film. But as you go along you realize that everything in the film serves a purpose. The flashbacks, the actions of the crew and the things that happen. Everything comes together nicely in the third act and at the same time it plays with your perceptions and ultimately provides a real (double) mindfuck. That's nice, because I often notice that the third act of good films throws a spanner in the works and in this film in particular the intelligent last part strengthens the first 70 to 80 minutes of the film. Everything falls into place without it feeling forced.

Very nice film in a favorite genre for me.

The clinical and cramped setting creates a fairly oppressive atmosphere. The deteriorating mental condition of the team, affected by the drugged deep-sleep sessions, also has an effect. With well-placed flashbacks throughout the film, Slingshot slowly builds up the situation in which it becomes increasingly unclear what is real and what is not. But not too slowly, as far as I'm concerned. There is always enough going on to keep me curious about the sequel. I watched this psychological sci-fi with great pleasure. Also because the actors perform well.
What I personally don't like is the ending. Why can't some filmmakers just give their story a clear ending? Or is it an unwritten rule that the last shot shows the truth? In that case, I find the scene just before it very strange.
