El Correo plot

Shortly after Spain switched to the euro in 2002, a time of opportunity arose for those who do it smart. Like Iván, a boy from Vallecas who has outgrown his neighborhood. He leaves his job as a clerk at a luxury golf club in the capital to work as a courier for an international money laundering organization. Iván has to transport suitcases to Brussels and Geneva, among other things. But Iván cannot take his eyes off the top and longs for the large amount of black money that construction entrepreneurs, corrupt politicians, bankers, athletes and Chinese criminals are already involved in.

This Spanish film is very worthwhile, with three stars as a reward.

Reasonable film in which the fictional story is linked to real-life corruption scandals in Spain. The many construction projects that were built with corrupt officials are sometimes still empty or have been demolished. The film provides insight into the money flows of money laundering, in which a simple boy works his way in but cannot actually keep track. The consequences are obvious. A positive thing about the film is that it touches a deeper layer that ordinary working people are sometimes unaware of. Politics and money coupled with ego and power and in this film also lust can throw people off balance and that is well displayed here. Great game from Aron Piper and also Laura Sepúl.

Based on true facts in the sense that the film is about Spain around the millennium and the years after with corrupt officials, black money, Swiss banks, construction scandals and the crisis. In this one, the film is set around the young Iván who makes enterprising use of the situation to get rich quickly.

Sort of a Spanish version of the Wolf of Wall Street.

Graphically very nicely presented with many colorful and neon lit passages, fueled by a techno-like soundtrack. Decadent parties, cocaine, sex, luxury cars, yachts and smooth dialogues. The 'underworld of Marbella' also comes into focus. Film also switches smoothly between locations such as Madrid, Geneva and Brussels. I really liked the movie. And the fact that I am learning Spanish is a plus to practice some. If you don't like Spanish-language films, I'd steer clear of this one. But if you can reconcile with the language and like films about 'dinero negro y dinero fácil', you should give this one a chance… 4*
