School principals Jarle [Øystein Røger] and Ajsa [Vera Veljovic-Jovanovic] prepare young teacher Sunna [Thea Lambrechts Vaulen] for a parent-teacher meeting following an incident at school involving Armand and Jon. Everything indicates that it will be a difficult conversation and Sunna is very nervous. When Armand's mother Elisabeth [Renate Reinsve] and Jon's parents Sarah [Ellen Dorrit Peterson] and Anders [Endre Hellestveit] sit next to each other, the tension is palpable. After the official reading of the incident in question, an emotional conversation ensues that gradually reveals the background of these parents. A captivating psychological drama with a masterful Reinsve and an excellent supporting cast. In the last half hour, Tøndel loses track and the denouement is therefore vague and disappointing. Too bad, because the 90 minutes that precede it are fantastic. Tøndel is the grandson of Ingmar Bergman and executive producer Liv Ullmann.

Interesting, but quite unbalanced film. The film is set in a building that you can never really get a grip on, but all kinds of corridors, corners and new spaces. In that respect, the film reminded me of the ballet school in Dario Argento's Suspiria. Not that the film has anything to do with it (except maybe the penultimate scene. In that sense, this is a typical debut film. All kinds of things are tried, but I can't completely forgive the makers for the strange development of the characters.

Indeed a somewhat unbalanced debut, as Knisper writes above, but from a director who dares to try things out. That makes Armand an unpredictable film and I like that. Renate Reinsve rules and shows her incredibly versatile talent. I really enjoyed her. I already thought she was great in The Worst Person in the World, but here she surpasses herself.
