The Antisocial Network plot

In the last few years there have been an endless number of memes on the internet. Many of these memes have their origins on the same website: 4chan. It is a website where users can leave their thoughts anonymously. This ensures that people dare to go far in what they share. This documentary reveals the reach of memes, which sometimes lead to the rise of a group such as QAnon or the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021. We speak from several young people who, out of boredom, took refuge on 4chan and thus became involved in all kinds of major crimes.

Anyone looking for insight into the pros and cons of social media will find this documentary about 4Chan and its changing guises in the years since its founding in 2003. Founders and early users reveal how a website by and for outsiders grew into a trolling network, an activist group, and the cradle of some of the most persistent conspiracy theories that still dominate public and political debate. The candor of the interviewees and the speed with which this social media platform adapted like a chameleon to the user environment make this an ideal way to spark a debate about the pros and cons of social media.
