Jedrek is a young boy who went through the hell of the Gulag and left Russia with the Anders Army as one of thousands of orphans. The time of captivity changed him from a boy from a good family into a schemer and petty thief who will do anything to survive. But the meeting with the soldiers of the II Corps and the budding love for the nurse Pola ensure that Jedrek undergoes a profound transformation.
