Another movie I'm seeing that gets an absurd amount of hate. Because it stars a woman, or because most people copy each other's opinions and refuse to consider that they saw good things?

Anyway, going into the film blind is key, which is what I did and just watched the trailer, which almost gives everything away. Typical.

Cinematography is excellent, visually superb. 1st act

It's a bit slow, but after that, it's a treat. The score and sound design are top-notch. Lead actress Kate Mara is excellent. The film is carefully constructed, and you really wonder what those aliens look like. Creepy AF

Ignore the haters. This film absolutely deserves a spot in my top 10 this year.

Astronaut Sam Walker (Kate Mara) is quarantined by her supervisor (and father) [Larry Fishburne] after an incident upon her return to Earth. She's experiencing unexplained sounds and mysterious visions, which she keeps secret, even from her husband [Gabriel Luna] and daughter [Scarlett Holmes], on the advice of her colleague and best friend Val [Macy Gray]. As her symptoms worsen, Sam begins to wonder what really happened to her. This intriguing mystery with a strong cast has a strange, far-fetched, and disappointing ending.

Mediocre sci-fi thriller. The story is thin and too limited to fill an entire film. Consequently, the execution isn't very good. The mystery buildup is reasonable, but until the very end, little happens beyond a few jump scares that would be more fitting for a true horror film. This story could have focused more on the mystery and drama. The film's positive aspect is the ending, which manages to touch the viewer in a different way. The acting is otherwise adequate. Visually, the film is reasonably successful. 2.5/3.0
