High Gear plot

Mark "High Gear" Sherrod is a successful race car driver, but when one day his mechanic, Ed Evans, is killed in a crash, he loses all courage to keep racing. He immediately decides to quit and takes a job as a taxi driver so that he can continue to care for Jimmy, Ed's son, whose dream was that his son would receive a first-class education at a military school. However, Jimmy is still under the delusion that Uncle Mark is still a racing driver, until he hears the truth over the radio and runs away from school.
